1014 Presents »Elias Wessel: Stuck Together Pieces!« in the Heart of New York City

In a townhouse on Fifth Avenue opposite the Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1014 creates a space to explore global challenges and opportunities together – across the worlds of culture, ideas and society. With its digital components, 1014 extends its reach beyond the city. Inclusive talks, performances and exhibitions offer perspectives from both sides of the Atlantic. 1014 strives to take transatlantic relations into the future. In an interconnected world, it offers a space to build partnerships based on trust and commitment for sustainable development and just societies.

Long a haven for artists and intellectuals, and a center of transatlantic cultural and intellectual exchange, the Beaux-Arts townhouse – one of the last of its kind along Museum Mile – is once again a space for dialogue and exchange. In the 1950s, Germany purchased the building from James W. Gerard, U. S. Ambassador to Germany until 1917, and strong believer in the transatlantic partnership. During the following 50 years, the building served as the Goethe-Institut, and saw renowned artists, politicians and public intellectuals, such as Willy Brandt, Andy Warhol, and Susan Sontag (image courtesy 1014 New York, 2016)

By invitation of 1014 and Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany Britta Wagener, the exhibition Elias Wessel: Stuck Together Pieces! presents a comprehensive selection on Wessel’s body of work highlighting his Landscapes, Cityscapes, Feral, Liebst and Sprung in die Zeit series’. With the opening reception hosted by the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, an artist talk moderated by Nina Tabassomi, Director and Curator of the Taxispalais - Kunsthalle Tirol, guided tours with the artist, the subsequent book publication Elias Wessel – Photographische Arbeiten aus den Jahren 2014-2017, and further events, 1014 accompanies the exhibition with a versatile program between November 2, 2016 and May 31, 2017, addressing global issues of mutual concern.
