Sprung in die Zeit – Leap Into Time

In this exhibition at the project space for contemporary art in Ansbach, German-born, New York-based artist Elias Wessel presents the small format edition of his Sprung in die Zeit (Leap into Time, 2014) series consisting of 42 carefully staged black and white photographs which reveal his dialogue between photography and painting and thoughts on the essence of images. Christian Schoen, author of the essay »Sprung in die Zeit – Zum Wesen der Bilder« and curator of the exhibition will moderate an accompanying artist talk and invites you to guided tours over the course of the exhibition which will be on view between Dec 19, 2016 and Feb 26, 2017.

During the creation process new arrangements with their own rules and principles develop and operate with opposites such as beginning and end, abundance and emptiness. The results are photographic works which are reminiscent of watercolor paintings in their simplified concentration of graphical abstractness as staged perception of time and space (all images © Elias Wessel and VG Bild-Kunst Bonn, 2016)
